Must have been a slow news week...

When Jane, a reporter from our small town's weekly newspaper, called me a few weeks ago and asked if she could interview us about our Vietnam adoption, I figured it would be a nice *little* article in a quiet corner on page 18B or something. HELLO! Front page and huge! Gee thanks, Jane! Very nice article, you did a good job, but ya coulda warned me, lol!

Here are a few pics from last weekend. Lily got to enjoy her first lawn tractor ride with Dad & Thomas, and she loved it:

Lily has a new obsession--the joy of Cheerio's. She can't shove them into her mouth fast enough. I was finally able to capture her "Popeye" face in the 2nd picture.

Several families from our agency received their I600 approvals in the last week or two, so there is a whole big group of them going to Vietnam to get their babies this week. I am so happy and relieved for them--they have been waiting so long, and for a while it looked like they might not get to bring their babies home at all. I hope the US and Vietnam gov'ts can get their acts together and work out a new agreement so adoptions can continue--there are so many kids there who need families.
You can help these needy orphans by writing, emailing, calling your congresspeople and letting them know you want our gov't to work with Vietnam to continue the US-Vietnam adoption program. Here are links to help you find your representatives contact info:
Other links that explain the problem better than I can:
Please do what you can to help the beautiful children of Vietnam find loving homes.

hmm, not sure if this will work....
Brian sent this to me - I have no idea how he came across it - and I am absolutely blown away!!! I didn't even put it togther that this was you until the last paragraph of the current post and then I cried! (literally!) I'm so happy for you, you never cease to amaze me! I hope you get this as I don't know what I'm doing and all the kids are at school so I can't get their help, but I just couldn't wait. I will write more later, once I know you're getting it, but in the meantime - Congratulations on bringing beautiful Lily into your already gorgeous family - everyone looks so happy!
Hope to hear from you soon. Lots of Love,
Marcie

Sue

I am leaving with my friend to pick up her baby in Vietnam next week 7/10. I grew up in Galena and our families know each other. I have some questions I would love to ask. I enjoyed your blog and found the food pictures reassuring. I know now we won't just be eating rice!

Sue, Thank you so much for sharing your story. I, too, have been reading blogs and gathering all kinds of information about adopting overseas... preferably in Vietnam. What is the current status with their adoption procedures? Are they still accepting adoptions from the US and/or have the regulations changed greatly than from your family's experience? I live in the suburbs of Chicago (as I read your blogs and the timeframe ... I wish that I had been able to provide lodging for you and your family when you were have such a tough time with flight delays because we live so close to O'Hare Airport). My husband and I have 3 boys ... 11, 9, and 4. I desperately want to have a daughter to complete our family and since I am now 41 ... I am feeling like I have such a small window of opportuntity for making this happen. I feel the urge overwelmingly to adopt overseas and provide love and a wonderful family for a little girl that needs it. You are very inspiring and brave to go with all of your children in tow and to do it with such a sense of humor. It is such a major step to take and I want to take it ... I just need to know where and when and how.... Thanks for reading....

Hi Marni,

Thanks for all the kind words! I'd be happy to talk to you about international adoption, but I don't see any way of contacting you. If you could email me at susankarberg@sbcglobal.net we can talk more.
